If you missed the Dorking BID today on BBC Surrey with James Cannon, tune in here at 01:51:33 and again at 02:22:26.

Dorking BID Manager Kathy Kyle discussed what the BID does and how it is helping to rejuvenate the local community.

The Dorking BID exists to support our future-focused, resilient and sustainable market town where businesses thrive and where people want to live, start a business, work, and visit.

The Dorking BID is business led and funded. It focuses on creating a safe, clean, green and welcoming environment for all to enjoy, where ideas and feedback are listened to and acted upon.

The team works collaboratively with community partners to support, enable and empower the local community.

When people support local businesses, we are investing in ourselves.

And that is what the Business Improvement District does; we collaborate with our community groups, schools, families, council, to make Dorking a better place to live, start and own a business and visit.

Silvermere Softplay and Cafe, based in Meadowbank Park are due to open their doors to the public on Monday 19th June. The softplay centre, formally known as ‘Meadowbank Soft Play’, will now be managed by successful, not-for-profit, family run gymnastics club Silvermere who are based in Cobham.

Silvermere Softplay Centre aims to provide an accessible and inclusive space for children, young people and adults to be able to channel their natural energy and lay the foundations of a healthy, active lifestyle- all whilst connecting with others. The key focus at the council owned site will be the premier soft play facility and cafe, already loved by members of our community re-opening on Monday 19th June 2023. There are plans for movement based groups and the integration of gymnastics during the quieter periods of the day/week from Autumn 2023. Silvermere are aiming to make the Softplay and Cafe site a multi functional hub which is inclusive to all members of the Dorking community. Children from infant stage, right up until older adults will have the opportunity move, play and connect.

Councillor Nick Wright, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism said,

“We are really pleased that the doors to the much-loved soft play and café at Meadowbank Park will soon be opening once again, much to the delight of the local community. The two facilities will be under the stewardship of Silvermere Softplay, whose inclusive vision of bringing people together and encouraging healthy lifestyles will no doubt excite future users. We are really looking forward to seeing the soft play and café flourish at this prime location in the Park.”

The newly decorated, welcoming and homely cafe ‘Connect’  will be open to all members of the public (and dogs too!), providing the perfect location to connect with others or enjoy some time alone whilst treating yourself to our wonderful selection of locally sourced and homebaked foods, tasty coffee and cold drinks. Silvermere are big on inviting the community in and are keen for groups and partnership organisations in Dorking to come and make use of the cafe space.

Erin Shanks, one of Silvermere Softplay’s directors, and head of Outreach, Inclusion and Wellbeing states:

“We cannot wait to welcome the Dorking community back into the Softplay and Cafe and feel so lucky to have the opportunity to be able to reopen its doors. We have enjoyed getting to know some of the community already through the process of developing relationships with small businesses and community organisations, as well as waving hello to much excited families peering in through the door as we work! Our interactions with parents/carers on social media have been a key component in helping us integrate ideas and recommendations into the space. We are very much looking forward to meeting everyone and hope that the community enjoys the changes we are making, alongside our plans for the future to offer something for everyone in Dorking through movement, connection and play.”

Silvermere Softplay and Cafe will open its doors to the public on Monday 19th June, after a smaller soft launch to club members the Saturday beforehand.
