Dorking Museum is a vibrant community hub which celebrates the rich history of the town and villages through its interactive permanent exhibition.
Regular temporary exhibitions allow artists, historians, photographers and community groups to work with the Museum team to explore aspects of the town’s heritage. History is brought to life through children’s activities and loan boxes, gallery talks, guided walks in Dorking and on the Deepdene Trail, and regular tours of Dorking’s South Street Caves. The curatorial team collects and cares for the town’s oral, visual, written and material heritage and the Museum’s extensive archive collections provide a service to a variety of users.
Run by the community for the community, the Museum works closely with a wide variety of organizations to involve all sections of society in an understanding of the history of the area and to make that history relevant today. The Cockerel Press publishes high-quality locally-based research, and through an extensive website of more than 1000 pages, the
Museum forges links and develops partnerships with individuals and organizations from throughout the UK and the wider world to foster a greater understanding of the Dorking area and its place in the world.
