Chantecleer Antiques are dealers in English period furniture, principally of the late eighteenth/early nineteenth centuries. With showrooms on several levels, including the spacious half-timbered “barn” to the rear, visitors will find a broad selection of pieces displayed in a relaxed period ambiance.
The owners had been antiques enthusiasts for many years prior to opening the Chantecleer, and when their West Street site became available they couldn’t pass up the chance to start their own Antiques dealership there.
The name Chantecleer came into being as a beautiful reference to Dorking itself; it derives from the well-known fowl in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, combining Dorking’s position on a Medieval Pilgrims’ Way with the town’s cockerel emblem.
“[Dorking] is our closest town, but [it’s] also very close to our hearts…not too big and not too small, with character, history, glorious surroundings and a friendly feel. It has an open, yet intimate feel.”
