Did you spot the statue of Ralph Vaughan Williams, one of Britain’s best-loved composers? With a career spanning more than 60 years, he lived a large part of his life in and around Dorking. Famed for his ‘Lark Ascending’, linked to nearby Box Hill and frequently voted Britain’s favourite piece of classical music, Vaughan Williams was also instrumental in the early years of the Leith Hill Musical Festival and founding the Dorking Halls. There are lots of things to do to entertain the kids and adults in Dorking – be sure to pop in to The Dorking Sports Centre and Dorking Halls to plan your next visit to our charming market town.
