A BID for Dorking
Now our BID is in place, we are excited to start to bring about positive change for Dorking. Over recent years, along with most other towns in the UK, Dorking has suffered from the changing nature of retail, – which has often resulted in a lack of footfall and a lack of interest in visiting Dorking’s unique and historic town centre.
Thanks to the BID for Dorking, improved management of the town centre and a boost to it’s potential is now firmly in place, and we can begin to revitalise untapped tourist opportunities, and safeguard its future. The BID is busy trying to maintain and promote commercial areas and independent businesses, and is providing encouragement and support for great shopping and eating opportunities within the town too.
Dorking is fortunate to be situated within a beautiful countryside setting, with a number of excellent opportunities on its doorstep. The BID for Dorking is now giving our business community the chance to make full use of these surroundings and events and put businesses in the driving seat to make sure priorities are being met and opportunities are being taken advantage of.
Along with our BID manager, the BID board and sub teams are now busy developing ideas to help secure Dorking’s future and drive it forward. Unlike business rates, which are collected by Mole Valley District Council but in the main passed on to central government and redistributed nationally, every penny collected via the Dorking BID levy is being invested back into the town, to make Dorking a better place to live in, a better place to work in, a better place to own and run a business in, and a better place to visit.
