Christmas Markets in Dorking
This year, more than ever, it is vitally important to support local businesses, especially independent retailers, boutiques and traders. Dorking residents are urged to Shop Local, Shop Dorking and keep their festive spending close to home as they tick items off their Christmas list. Not only will this support make a huge difference to local retailers, there are ecological benefits too. Fewer out-of-town shopping trips and reducing packaging and transport by cutting down on online purchases will be a much-needed gift to the planet.
Before the countdown to Christmas gets fully underway, download Dorking’s LoyalFree app for shopping trails and keep up-to-date with special offers and what is open and when. A Dorking Directory filled with great gift inspiration, highlighting the vast array of shops and boutiques located throughout the town, will also help shoppers enjoy a stress-free run up to the big day.
With the safety of residents and retailers firmly in mind, the difficult decision has been taken not to hold a Christmas Festival in Dorking this year.
Andrew Fuller, Chair of Dorking’s BID (Business Improvement District), commented: “It is very disappointing news as the Dorking Christmas Festival is an annual highlight for so many of our residents, families and businesses. However, safety is a top priority and we must of course continue to follow Government guidelines on social distancing and public events. We are sad that we can’t hold the Festival this year, but Christmas will still be a special celebration in our beautiful town. Dorking is very much open for business – and the businesses that make our town so special really appreciate your custom.”
Even without its Festival, Dorking remains an excellent destination for Christmas shopping and celebrations. The town will be suitably dressed and decorated for the festive season and a Christmas Market, curated by Dorking Town Partnership is being held on the weekend of the 12th and 13th December in St Martins Walk car park.
Why not make an early start on your Christmas preparations by combining a shopping trip to the town with a visit to the Christmas market or Dorking’s Artisan Market taking place in St Martin’s Walk, 11am – 4pm the first Sunday of the month until the end of the year.
